Round 5: Crisis and Behavioral Health Continuum

The California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) is pleased to announce the awarding of Behavioral Health Continuum Infrastructure Program (BHCIP) Round 5: Crisis and Behavioral Health Continuum grants. This round will fund $430,000,000 in projects and expand crisis and behavioral health (mental health and substance use disorder) infrastructure across the state. The focus of this round of BHCIP funding was determined in part by the statewide needs assessment that identified significant gaps in the availability of crisis services and supported an organized continuum of crisis services to reduce emergency department visits, hospitalizations, and incarceration.

California tribal 638 clinics, Native American agencies, and urban-Indian clinics were invited to attend a Native American-specific BHCIP Round 5: Crisis and Behavioral Health Continuum informational webinar on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, from 2:00-3:00 p.m. In addition to providing general information related to BHCIP Round 5: Crisis and Behavioral Health Continuum, including eligibility and application information and tribal set-asides, the webinar focused on specific Native American and tribal concerns.

All prospective applicants were invited to join DHCS and Advocates for Human Potential (AHP), the BHCIP administrative entity, for an informational webinar on November 2, 2022, from 2:00-3:30 p.m. PT. The webinar reviewed this funding opportunity for crisis and other behavioral health services infrastructure projects.

A listening session open to all potential applicants to Round 5: Crisis and Behavioral Health Continuum was held August 4, 2022, to gather information from stakeholders. Information and policy questions specific to this round of funding were presented, and written and verbal responses were collected for an online list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ).
